UP YOUR GAME
Are you a spin putter or a push putter? This is one of the main differences between player putting styles.
Spin putt: Involves utilizing your wrist as you release the disc to create the spin needed to generate power for the putt. Spin putters will tend to miss left or right of the basket.
Push putt: The disc stays on a vertical plane and uses the down and up movement to generate power for the putt. Push putters tend to miss high or low of the basket.
Note that both putting methods put spin on the putt, but for spin putters, this is their main source of power.
According to Chris Clemons, whether you spin or push putt, the important thing is to be confident. A way he likes to build confidence is by practicing short putts. Making the short ones allows you to practice your form and build repetition all while building confidence.
“Of course you want to have good form, and that comes with practice and repetition… but its all about confidence.”
Another aspect Chris touches on is the mental game. Don’t overthink things as you step up to a putt. If you find your mind wandering or confidence lacking, refocus your mind by going through your routine don’t fear missing the putt.
TOURNAMENT RECAP
Calvin Heimburg continues his hot streak. In 2023, he now has two DGPT wins and two additional podiums. He is the only player to have finished in the Top 3 in every DGPT event so far this year.
Sai Anada emerged this weekend to win her first career DGPT event. Her prior best DGPT finish was ninth place at The Open at Austin last weekend.
The trophy for Calvin and Sai? A golden belt buckle.

MPO
Who’s currently the best player in the world, Calvin Heimburg. His performance thus far in 2023 is unmatched and he proved it again this last weekend in Houston.
Calvin held the lead through all three rounds of the tournament, finishing six strokes ahead of second place. He also tied Anthony Barela for the hot round, both shot -13 in round two, a 1086-rated round.
Anthony along with Joel Freeman were both able to hold onto a share of second place. The first DGPT podium for either player so far this season.
Another player lurking and constantly in the hunt was Ezra Aderhold. Through four DGPT events, Ezra has one podium and two sixth-place finishes.
FPO
After round one, Sai Ananda found herself in the mix for third along with Lisa Fajkus and Maria Oliva. A solid 1000+ rated round two pushed her into the lead for the final round. It was hers to lose but she held out and finished three strokes ahead of Kristin Tattar in second place.
Kristin fought her way onto the lead card heading into the final round. She then shot the best FPO round on the day, proving why she is still #1 in the world. She now has a first, second, and fifth DGPT place finish in 2023.
Ohn Scoggins also proved why she is considered one of the best. After a hot round one, that included an ace on hole two, she kept the forehands flexing to claim her second DGPT podium so far this season.
HIGHLIGHTS
Check out highlights from the tournament winners Calvin Heimburg and Sai Ananda.
Kat Mertsch nearly rang up the second ace in round one on hole 18.
Though the division labels are wrong, check out the belt buckles Calvin and Sia can start wearing around tour. If only they had won the cowboy hat from The Open at Austin, it could have turned into a pretty nice outfit.
Holyn Handley showed off her distance by nearly taking out the ankles of one of the cameramen.
James Proctor is another sleeper for a breakout performance in 2023. He’s placed top 5 in the last two DPGT tournaments. It helps that he can drain 72-ft putts.
Calvin might be playing a different sport than the rest of the field.

RULE OF THE DAY
B. If an obstacle physically prevents the player from taking a legal stance behind the marker disc, or from marking a disc above or below the playing surface, the player may mark a new lie on the line of play immediately behind that obstacle.
