⚖️ McBETH GETS McSUED
The Gran Canyon Disc Golf Course in Brooksville, FL is now closed due to a pending lawsuit against McCease LLC submitted by individual Trevor Toenjes.
The [Amended] Complaint
In the complaint, Plaintiff [Toenjes] “sustained bodily injury” while on the property and is holding Defendant [McCease LLC] responsible due to their duty to maintain reasonably safe conditions and owing reasonable care for Plaintiff’s safety.
The summons was issued back in late May and the suit is for damages demanding $50,000 + interest, fees, etc.
Context
McCease LLC was formed by disc golf professional Paul McBeth and Chicago White Sox pitcher Dylan Cease to purchase the disc golf course home to the beloved Throw Down the Mountain tournament.
The two teamed up to purchase the property that was doomed to be sold off to developers. They purchased the course and property for $1.2 million with the hopes of converting it from a seasonal course to a year-round course and a potential future Disc Golf Pro Tour stop.
What happens next?
The course will no longer host the Independence Day Clash X scheduled for July 8th-9th.
According to tournament director Michael Barnett, this lawsuit and its outcome can have implications for future events at the course heading into 2024, and even the plans to convert it into a permanent course.

Des Moines Challenge

For the second time this year, a DGPT event has been cut short due to inclement weather.
The DGPT suspended play during round two on Saturday, announcing the second round would be resumed on Sunday with the FPO division immediately playing a third round while the MPO division would only complete 36 holes total. Players that had already begun their second round on Saturday resumed play on Sunday from their previous lie.
Kristin Tattar took home $12,250 this weekend in what was her seventh DGPT win this year and the largest payout of her career. Already this year she has earned more than $36,000 in prize money, which is $11,000 more than this time last season.
Des Moines native, Gannon Buhr won his second DGPT Elite event of the year on the course he’s been playing since he was 15 years old. First place at his hometown is a great bounceback and momentum builder after a poor showing at DDO where he missed the cut for the first time in three years.
