BULLSEYE
As 2022 comes to an end, many worldwide are looking forward to the 2023 tournament season. Konopišitě Open will appear again on the Euro Tour in 2023. To help build the hype, they released a teaser video over the weekend.
The Konopišitě Open is held in the Czech Republic on the Franz Ferdinand Course. The most iconic part of the course is the historic Konopišitě Castle near hole 18. The castle dates back to 1294 and is inspired by French fortress designs. It included cylindrical towers, a fortified watchtower, gates, and a drawbridge.
The course draws its name from a previous castle resident, Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. If you were too busy daydreaming about discs in your high school history class, Franz Ferdinand was the heir presumptive to the Austria-Hungary throne, whose assassination was a cause of World War I.
Disc golf at Konopišitě goes back to 2013 when it hosted the Czech Disc Golf Championship. Since 2013, it has appeared on the Euro Tour and Disc Golf World Tour. It hosted the 2021 European Disc Golf Championship in which 26 countries were represented, where Niklas Anttila and Henna Blomroos took home first place in the MPO and FPO divisions, respectively.
The world-famous course is excited to add another chapter to the disc golf fairy tale in 2023. The Konopišitě Open will be held from June 16-18th.
PLAYER SPOTLIGHT
Estonian native Kristin Tattar has been on fire this year. She is the 2022 FPO World Champion and DGPT Champion.
This year she was also awarded the DGPT Elaine King Player Of The Year and Estonia's disc golf FPO player of the year. She's not done yet. Kristin has also been nominated for Estonian Female Athlete of the Year. She is one of 10 nominees for the award, voting ends on the 25th.
In 2022, Kristin took 1st place in five DGPT events, won the FPO division at the World Championships, and racked up six more top-3 finishes at DGPT and PDGA Major Events.
She became the first Estonian, the second European, and the first mother to win the world title. She also became the first pro disc golfer to total over $100,000 of tournament winnings in a year.
Kristen started her PDGA career in 2014 when she won the FPO Estonian Championship. The following year she competed in several Euro Tour events and finished 2015 with 12 FPO division wins. Carrying that momentum through 2016, in 2017, she competed in her first Major event, placing 6th at the European Open and 7th at the U.S. Women's DGC.
She made her Disc Golf Pro Tour debut in 2019 at the MVP Open at Maple Hill, where she placed 2nd. The same year, she won five Euro Tour events and the U.S. Women's DGC.
After a slow 2020, she returned in 2021 to win two DGPT events and two A-Tier events. Kristin has placed no lower than 3rd in her last 15 DGPT and PDGA Major events, a stat she surely hopes to build on in 2023.
